Canada Midwife Regulatory Program

Carib Student provides support with Caribbean Midwives to enroll in the internationally Educated Midwives Bridging Program (IEMBP) with the University of British Columbia.

The Internationally Educated Midwives Bridging Program (IEMBP) aims to increase diversity and expertise within the midwifery workforce in British Columbia or other provinces. This 8-10 month orientation program provides a means by which internationally trained midwives can become registered for practice within B.C or other provinces.

The IEMBP is an orientation program, not an education program. Applicants must have completed a recognized midwifery education program, or be assessed on significant midwifery experience if their education cannot be verified or approved. Only those who have undergone a midwifery education program can apply to the IEMBP. Medical professionals, regardless of experience, are not eligible for this program.

What kind of midwifery education do I need?

  • A minimum of 24 months of full-time midwifery education or at least 2400 clinical hours and 850 academic hours over a minimum of 18 months of midwifery education (Must be verified by WES Course by Course).

  • You must have registered with a regulatory organization or government department that: has authority to govern the profession; keeps a register of midwives; and regulates the standards and practice of midwifery, AND

OR

  • Have completed a Midwifery education program within the last 5 years and have met the 100 primary birth requirements of all applicants through education and experience prior to your submission of application to the IEMBP
